The Power of Dyslexia

In conjuction with USMKK's Hari Terbuka Desa this weekend, I decided to join the health exhibition, the pediatric station. The title we are doing is dyslexia.

Dyslexia is actually a learning disability among children. These children have a normal level of intelligence, just like others, only that they are a little slow in terms of reading, spelling and writing. However, with proper help and support, they can turn out to be really amazing people.

The following is a video which I found over the net. It's really inspiring. You'll be surprised.

That's the power of dyslexia.

Section 23's Cows

For those who aren't aware of the current issue in Malaysia, this is a short extract from The Star.

"On Aug 28, some 50 people, led by residents of Section 23, marched about 300m from the state mosque to the gates of the state secretariat building to protest against the relocation of the Sri Mahamariamman temple from Section 19 to Section 23.

They carried a cow’s head and stepped on it, kicked it and spat on it during the protest.

They also warned of further action if the temple was built in their area."

Now, that has been disturbing me. I believe insulting others whether the state government or the Hindus by carrying a cow’s head and stepped on it, kicked it and spat on it during the protest is not encouraged by ANY religion. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now this is one of the pictures which I got from The Malaysian Insider. Look how happy these protestors are. I didn't see you wanting peace when you do what you did. No signs of remorse. They are proud of what they did. Arrogant.

One even had the cheek to say this, “For Malays, a cow is synonymous with stupidity and not synonymous with religious matters. It is not as a serious offence as portrayed.” I'm pretty sure that's what you meant (eyes-rolling). Either you are stupid or you think the rest of the Malaysians are.

Correct me again if I'm wrong. After mixing among Malaysians for my entire 21 years, I believe the month of Ramadan is meant to teach the Muslims patience and modesty. The sad thing is, all I saw was anger and selfishness. Hypocrites.

Who are the cows now?

Double-Edged Sword

Take a look at USM's logo. With the pucuk rebung there.

While I think that the pucuk rebung is really nice, I was greeted with an interesting but 'not so nice' news the other day. Apparently, for my upcoming continuous assessment or peperiksaan selanjar as they call it here, we will be ranked according to our results. From number 1 right to number 218.

Just when I thought schooling days were over.

Perhaps the university wants to increase the competitiveness among the students but I believe it will do more harm than good. Those who are highly ranked will be under pressure to maintain their 'position' while those who aren't will definitely suffer low self-esteem.

The current ABC grading method is already causing me a significant amount of stress. And now rankings? You got to be kidding me.

Hopefully, it's just another hangat-hangat tahi ayam thing.

New Layout

Spent the whole day changing the blog's layout. Waste of time lor. Didn't manage to do anything else all thanks to the super slow internet connection. I'm quite satisfied though. After all the hard work and the result, it's all worth it =)
